Alexis indicated that it was the best course of action for both parties at the time and noted that she still plans to shoot with Digital Playground as well as others in the future. "While there are definite advantages to being an exclusive starlet, many things have changed in the past year since I signed with Digital that make it more beneficial to both myself and the company that we alter our relationship in a way that serves both our goals moving forward."
"In this environment, both Digital Playground and I came to the conclusion that our mutual interests are best served in having the opportunity to shoot with one another on a case-by-case basis as opposed to within the confines of terms dictated within a contract created in a substantially different business climate."
Raven Alexis concluded by noting she is discussing multiple options and is currently booking roles in house while finalizing the details of her new agency affiliations. I am particularly intrigued by the new Penthouse Loft units, which look to me to be a perfect place to throw a party -- if you're planning a party during Adult Expo. Take a look there on the right for a bird's-eye view of the new suites, complete with hot tub in the living area for the appropriate Vegas-decadent touch.
I'd like to stay there myself and plan to as soon as I win the lottery, which I intend to do any week now.
The Tropicana is located at 3801 Las Vegas Boulevard South, at the corner of Tropicana Avenue. This is relatively inconvenient to Adult Expo but the Las Vegas Monorail runs between 7 am and 2 am (3 am on weekends) and there's a station behind the MGM Grand and another station that serves Harrah's and the Imperial Palace so it's do-able.

Wait until you hear this! Last Saturday night, Ron Jeremy and Pastor Craig Gross (of xxxChurch.com) were debating porn at a huge church here in San Diego -- no, it's not a typo, I did indeed say church; click here. I was in the audience, as was porn legend Stephanie Swift, (I dated her Mom for an entire summer many years ago).
The combined church buildings cover four football fields. The main church facility where the debate was held had seating for over 5,000 people, and almost every seat was filled for what was billed as the "Great Porn Debate". I marveled at the size of the facility as I entered to what at first reminded me of a gigantic night club or concert venue, complete with a DJ spinning hip-hop music on the stage. The place was equipped with two very large projection screens for camera operators to show the audience up close views of the stage.
Attendees were at least 18 years of age, not unlike performers on porn sets, and seemed to be mostly in the 20-40 age groups. It looked to me like there were as many couples as singles there. Someone recognized me as I was taking my seat, and told folks who I was, but everyone was cordial and I was asked a lot of questions about porn while waiting for the event to start. Maybe it was the music, or the anticipation of the porn debate, but everyone was smiling and happy looking.
The church suddenly broke out in loud cheering and applause when Pastor Miles McPherson, a former NFL player who is the Pastor and Founder of the Rock Church, walked onto the stage to act as moderator and MC for the debate. He's down to earth, yet inspirational, congenial, fair, and he was the perfect moderator. Craig opened with 15 minutes of his contentions, Ron then had 15 minutes to respond, and then questions were entertained from those arriving via text messages, and from on site attendees. Everything was brilliantly organized.
The questions covered lots of areas, a few of which concerned religion, while most mirrored the same questions we get from porn fans. At one point, while Ron was answering a question about anal sex, it came out that he's had sex with over 3,000 women, and the moderator/Pastor then grabbed two unopened bottles of drinking water and walked around Ron with a grin on his face as if he was blessing him with holy water. The attendees erupted with laughter, Ron Jeremy smiled, and Craig just watched.
In my opinion, although Ron Jeremy clearly bested Pastor Gross in the formal debate and the 90-minute follow-on questions and answers, there was so much meaningful information discussed that the audience also "won" BIG time. Yes, some spiritual matters were addressed, but the thirst for sexual enlightenment also shined brightly, and in fact ruled the evening. Everyone was respectful that we were in church, but candid sex information was diplomatically dispensed in a way that was not uncomfortable. Afterwards, Ron Jeremy and Craig Gross headed for the library for a meet-and-greet with anyone who wanted to stop by. Pastor McPherson and I chatted a bit, and I got to hug Stephanie Swift as I was exiting the Great Porn Debate venue.
As I was heading towards the library to say goodbye to Ron Jeremy, folks smiled and welcomed me to their church, and a long line formed to get Ron's autograph and/or a photo with him---it was not unlike the annual AVN Expo in Las Vegas. The line grew to approximately four blocks long. To me, many of the church folks were worshipping the legend of Ron Jeremy, clearly the man of the hour!
In closing, I wholeheartedly commend Pastor McPherson for hosting such a daring and worthwhile event for his flock, and for the fair, fun, and splendid way he moderated the debate. He's quite a man of God, and he's an all-around super human being. Yes, I spent three hours in church, and it was fine! If you sometime get the opportunity, visit the Rock Church for an amazing experience.

Pre 'Deep Throat' mainstream lubricity
Although "Deep Throat" premiered in 1972, it did not occur in a vacuum. Expressions of sexuality in mainstream movies had been loosening up for a few years before that, and one of the prime examples from 1971 is finally being released on DVD.
"Pretty Maids All in a Row" is a combination of a coming-of-age/teen kid gets laid movie with a dark comedy of murder. The main character is Rock Hudson (!) as a womanizing (!!) football coach/guidance counselor (!!!) who is fucking his way through the female half of the student body at Oceanfront High. The innocent teen is John David Carson, and his lust object is Angie Dickinson (!). The movie was written and produced by Gene Roddenberry and directed by French auteur Roger Vadim (who had previously been involved with Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve, and was married to Jane Fonda) and it was made and released by M-G-M, the most mainstream of mainstream studios.
The cast also includes Roddy MacDowall, Telly Savalas, Keenan
Wynn and James Doohan, plus every good-looking young woman they could
scare up, and there are a lot of them.
At any rate, Warner Archives is releasing it on DVD and if you got in quick enough you could have gotten one that was autographed by Angie Dickinson, but those seem to be sold out.

Sci-fi fans should look for appearances by Roddy McDowall (Planet of the Apes) as the High School Principal, and James Doohan ("Scotty" from Star Trek) as a State Trooper. If that's not enough, imagine the film's opening soundtrack featuring Chilly Winds, a song by the Osmonds. With everybody doin' it in this whodunit, "Pretty Maids all in a Row" needs to be seen to be believed.

Tony Curtis 1925 - 2010
Actor Tony Curtis died last night at his home in Las Vegas. In a long career, Curtis managed to juggle light comedy and heavy drama, transitioning from the saxophone player forced to hide out in an all-girl band in "Some Like it Hot" to a carefree wheeler-dealer junior submarine officer in "Operation Petticoat" to sleazy PR agent Sidney Falco in "Sweet Smell of Success" to brutal serial killer Albert DeSalvo in the almost forgotten "The Boston Strangler." (Directed by the almost-forgotten Richard Fleischer. Ask Daniel Metcalf about Fleischer.)
He was married six times, including to actress Janet Leigh, and is the father of actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
Cause of death was given as cardiac arrest. He was 85.

"I had the fortunate opportunity of meeting Tony, and spoke to him on several occasions at various events and venues in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. He was a great man, very funny, very charming, and a TRUE legend.
"He was very kind to give me some acting advice a few times, because he was a man who knew timing and knew how to get the right performance from every scene he did. One of the things he told he was; "Just have fun with it, enjoy what you're doing, and that will come out on camera."
I was very humbled that an iconic legend like Tony Curtis would stop and give advise to a young actor, but that was the kind of man he was. He also had a lot of great stories about the old days in Hollywood. He was loved and respected by so many in Hollywood and all over the world.
My deepest condolences go out to Jamie and the entire family on their loss, I recently lost my Mother, so I know what they are going through.

First, they came for the nudists
A city in Washington is trying to clamp down on the relatively-harmless practice of having women in bikinis serving coffee at coffee houses. I say "relatively-harmless" because hot coffee and bare skin is a bad combination.
The writer of The Political Naturist sees this as a part of a larger effort by social conservatives to stamp out behavior that they don't approve of:
All it takes is one emboldened, crusading moralist in a position of authority to start railing about the evils of nudists and the danger they pose to the general public, and specifically to children. It will matter not if there is any truth to the demonizing, or any shred of evidence - what will matter will be the public reaction and the ensuing actions of the legislators and judges, who have shown ... that the 14th Amendment does not matter when the "moral sensibilities" of the people are at risk.
I've been to several nudist parks, and despite how they're depicted in bawdy British B-movies and the occasional porn video they are a lot like any hotel or country club where families get together to sunbathe and swim, complete to the happy yells of children playing on swings and merry-go-rounds. If naturism isn't your particular cup of tea, you don't have to go -- but there is something very wrong about people who don't approve of nudists stomping in and demanding that those who have voluntarily chosen to participate stop in order to placate the people who don't approve.
I'm going to keep an eye on this, and I hope you will too.

On Friday and Saturday at the New Beverly Cinema there are two movies from the '30s featuring the great John Barrymore. "Twentieth Century" stars Barrymore as an imperious Broadway producer who will stop at nothing to get his one-time protegee and ex-lover Carole Lombard to star in his new show. Howard Hawks's direction brings a lot of action to the small-scale production (which takes place mostly in a railroad train compartment) assisted by an impressive cast of '30s character actors in supporting roles.

If black-and-white '30s comedies aren't your cup of tea, there's a rather-heavy drama of interest at LACMA Saturday night. Marco Bellochio's 1987 "Devil in the Flesh," a remake of a 1947 film, features actress Maruschka Detmers as an "older" woman (read: 20-something) who is the lust object of a teenage boy. She encourages his attentions because her fiance is in jail awaiting trial for political crimes.
The film is notable for a short scene in which Detmers fellates her teen co-star, which has been celled the first such occurrence in a mainstream film. It looks like an underexposed outtake but it's there.

Random Notes from a Red Notebook: Going Deep at PSK
The short walk to Sardo's Grill and Lounge from Chez Hunter is still enough to work up a sweat, as I find out when I enter the friendly confines and walk up to say hi to Nicki Hunter. Violet Monroe is in the L-shaped booth, and Scotty Coxxx and Vanessa Naughty are in the center. They have room and graciously invite me to join them... Tommy Gunn walks up, gestures to ask if he can sit down. It's not my table, so I look at Scotty and he waves Tommy in... Tommy is still excited about his recent appearance on "Entourage" on HBO and we trade stories about mainstream... I don't think he entirely believed my story about wind-up TV cameras but he was too polite to call me on it... Vanessa Naughty, called up to sing, turns in a creditable "At Last" but the song is too big for her. It needs a deep, throaty chest voice and she's playing it genteel. Nice interpretation though... Dale DaBone and Seth Gamble amble in... I was going to call Seth about an interview but I got some writing assignments. He understands. I know if we schedule an interview and he books a scene with some hottie it'll be my turn to wait...
Sabrina Deep, the hostess for the evening, walks in with director Beth Raphael and they take their place on the platform... Tee Reel... Gram Ponante ambles in, glad-handing his way in... Powder. That guy is always working.... PSK regular Shon Encinas takes the mic... Vanessa returns to the table, with a friend who introduces herself as Viva. She's an actress/model and she doesn't do porn. Fine with me. I tell her that sex performing is a particular skill and not everybody can do it, and she's welcome all the same. We chat about mainstream, mostly music... Vanessa is ready to sing again. She's a big Heart fan and wants to do "Magic Man." That'll work better with her delicate voice...
Gram walks over, carrying a snifter of something brown, and asks to sit. Sure. A moment later, Sabrina sits between us. We talk as somebody sings "Killing Me Softly With His Song."
"That song's a lot more interesting if you change 'song' to 'cock,'" she observes.
"I don't think I'm ever going to hear that song the same way again," I respond.
Sabrina decides she wants to sing The Beatles' "Come together" (I sense a trend here) and I fill out the slip and hand it in, passing along to Nicki that Sabrina wants Nicki to sing the song with her. The song reminded me of the "Jeopardy!" show I saw earlier in the evening when the three thirtysomething contestants had to guess which Beatle was the drummer. Third one got it...
Deep tells me she likes the atmosphere at Sardo's. "It's OK that I'm a porn star. People walk up and talk to me. It's awesome."
Sabrina is drinking something brown out of a snifter. (I'm drinking something brown out of a tall glass. Diet Coke.) I ask her "Brandy?" and she shakes her head. "No. Martini."
"What?"
"Matrini & Rossi. Sweet vermouth." Not the first thing I thought of when she said "Martini" but yeah, I can see that....
Dane Cross walks up, a highball glass in one hand and a tall glass filled with something red in the other. "Scotch?" I ask him.
"Yeah. And a Shirley Temple," he says, indicating the tall glass. "They're surprisingly good," he adds with a grin. I tell him about the astounding magic act I saw recently: The magician went into the audience looking for a helper and came back with Nina Hartlley.
Cross asks, "Did he recognize her?"
"He didn't let on."'
Our attention is drawn to the performance space, where a blonde civilian women is celebrating her birthday by spending a minute deeply kissing Nicki Hunter before dropping a glass between Nicki's boobs for a body shot.
"It's her birthday and it's the greatest night of her life," Tom, the karaoke DJ observes on-mic. "For Sardo's, it's just another Tuesday."

Getting more buck for their 'Bang'
Nikki Finke is reporting that the three principals of "The Big Bang Theory" have finished negotiations that will bump their salaries for season four by more than double from last season, up from $60,000 per episode to $200,000, plus a piece of the syndication.
According to Finke, they could have gotten even more money if one of the three hadn't tried to negotiate separately. (Finke says Warner Bros. is selling "Big Bang Theory" in syndication at a reported $2 million-plus for each episode. 'nuff said?) The producers settled with the other two and told the third performer take it or leave it. The six principals of "Friends" stuck together and negotiated hefty paychecks as the show continued, at $750,000 per episode each in seasons seven and eight and $1 million per episode in seasons nine and ten. Plus a piece of the syndication from season five forward.
Maybe they'll negotiate together next time.

"Jeopardy!" super-champion Ken Jennings's one-day record of $75,000 was beaten Tuesday night when Roger Craig leveraged a massive lead into a $30,000 on a gimme Final and a $77,000 payoff.

New surcharge for Michael Jackson fans
Tabloid gossip site TMZ.com is reporting that Forest Lawn has instituted a $3 charge for dropping off flowers to Michael Jackson's grave.
I can see that.
Jackson is interred in the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn, a gigantic multi-story structure that is larger than a football field and locked down tighter than Fort Knox. The security is so tight in the Mausoleum that if you want to leave flowers for a family member, you have to give the security person the name and location of your relative and your passage will be tracked with motion detectors. If you happen to wander off-track, oh-so-polite security personnel will help you find your way and find your way out.
Since Jackson's interment at the Holly Terrace of the Mausoleum, fans have gathered pretty much every day to peer in the glass door and some clever ones would bring flowers in the hope that they could actually visit Jackson's crypt, ha ha. The fans are met outside the door by polite security personnel who would politely tell them that the Mausoleum was closed to visitors but that was very nice of you to bring flowers and I'll be happy to place them for you.
There is now a charge for the flowers to be placed. This will discourage the people who only buy flowers to see Jackson's crypt, because as soon as they realize there is a fee to place flowers there they will get the message that you can't do it yourself.

Free Speech Coalition has issued a press release encouraging adult-industry opposition to the proposed .xxx domain and telling exactly how to express it. I don't have a lot to add:
FSC Issues Call to Action for .XXX Comments
CANOGA PARK, Calif. -- Free Speech Coalition has issued a Call to Action for industry members to submit commentary to Internet domain regulator ICANN, to voice their opposition to the proposed .XXX sTLD. The Call to Action will be posted on the FSC website, as well as on industry media outlets and message boards.
Industry stakeholders are offered two options for submitting their comments.
They can choose to submit their own comments to ICANN; the Call to Action suggests six issues of concern that stakeholders may comment on, and are encouraged to do so during the public comment period that ends on Sept 23.
The second option is to follow a link to a short, two-question survey endorsing statements of opposition to the proposed .XXX sTLD. FSC will compile and submit the data collected from the survey to ICANN.

ICANN has posted the Revised Proposed Registry Agreement and Due Diligence Documentation for public comment on the ICANN website. FSC has responded to the Board with a letter of requests and has filed a Documentary Information Disclosure Policy for additional information.

... with companies that have pre-registered .XXX domain names but are in opposition to a .XXX sTLD. By ICM’s own definition those companies do not qualify for a .XXX sTLD because they do not voluntarily agree to the .XXX sTLD and thus believe that ICM’s proposed .XXX sTLD would be detrimental to their business.
... with the lack of transparency surrounding ICM’s submissions in the omission of the names of IFFOR Board members and Policy Council members who will develop regulations for the .XXX online industry.
... that adult businesses would be required to agree to comply with “IFFOR Policies and Best Practices Guidelines” that have yet to be created by boards and councils which have yet to be revealed.
... that information provided for public comment is insufficient. Members of the adult entertainment community require more information about the application in order to provide the appropriate level of feedback to the ICANN Board for it to make an informed decision.

Random Notes from a Red Notebook: Adultcon
My two-block walk from the Blue Line to the Convention Center is punctuated with mostly-silent protesters waving signs that say PORNOGRAPHY DAMAGES CHILDREN, PORNOGRAPHY DESTROYS MARRIAGES, REAL MEN DON'T EXPLOIT WOMEN and a handmade sign that says "Ladies, you don't have to do this." As I write down the wording on the signs I hear one protester earnestly telling somebody how porn is bad, and another cheerfully accosting three men with marijuana leis around their necks, asking them "Which convention did you go to?"
The directional signs are very clear whan I walk into the building: Hemp Con to the right, Adultcon to the left. I walk around the ticket line and go to the Exhibitors window, where I get a press wristband.
First thing I see over the red-curtain wall is the top of a KDAY tent. I don't hear a DJ so I'm thinking they aren't broadcasting, just representing. First person I see is Cadence St. John, cigarette in hand, ready to take a smoke break. We say hi and off she goes, we'll talk later ... A four-person camera crew is here from cable programming service G4 ... Talia Marie, Eric John and Vicki Chase, Nicki Hunter and Sunny Leone all have booths ... I see Lisa Raphael walking with a familiar-looking woman. Turns out it's Sabrina Deep, Europe-based pro-am performer in town for a fan gangbang ... Lisa tells me about several new projects she has lined up with Sabrina, several of which won't work if they're announced ahead of time, so never mind. Sabrina will be hosting Porn Star Karaoke Tuesday, that's not a secret ...
I take a water break at the back of the room, sitting at a large table with a guy who looks like legendary director Paul Thomas, but he probably isn't ... He doesn't recognize me, for starters ... I am surprised to see Tori Black practically ignored at the PornStar Tweet booth. A closer look reveals that it isn't Tori Black but Allie Haze. Oops. And then a group develops and I can't get close enough to do anything but say hi ... Alexander Raymond and Tanya Tate are at her booth. We chat for a while. I don't see them as much as I'd like ... "If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it" blasts from the Scores booth in the back. The deep-voiced DJ mentions people who aren't here like Robin Leach and Ron Jeremy. If he's trying to pass himself off as Robin Leach his voice is two octaves too low and more British than Australian, but the stentorian voice adds a bit of colour ... Erika Icon walking the floor with Ruby Violence ... Model Red Hot at a booth selling T-shirts ... Vicki Vette's Vette Nation Army is here with a large sign that says "VNA/TAKING CARE OF OUR PRIVATES" which makes me smile. Gaby Quinteros, Carmen Valentina, Deauxma, Sara Jay, wrestler Holly Would and Francesca Le are at the booth ... Vicky Vette has a large display stack of her Doc Johnson vagina molds ...
A large booth from the Wet people handing out free sample envelopes. A new product called "Synergy" gets my attention. "What's it a synergism of?" I ask and I'm told "water and silicone." Oh. She squeezes some on my fingers and it starts as a gel and liquefies. Cool. ... A plastic-surgery group has a table with a stapled stomach and several breast implants ... Jack Lawrence, walking around and gladhanding, observes that the room is small. Yes, I point out, but there is no empty space, the room is filled to the walls ... I ask a fellow in a booth selling pot-themed T-shirts if he made a wrong turn. "No way, man. There's more action here." He's assisted by a topless young woman wearing marijuana-leaf pasties. her name is Honey and she's a dancer in Hesperia ... The side wall has Jelena Jensen, Ryan Keely, Sophie Dee, model Shelley Michelle, Joslyn James and Lizz Tayler ...
I run into Nikita Denise at her booth, which she is sharing with Alexandria Divine and Ashley Pleasures. After a quick how's-it-going exchange she asks "Are we going to have the same conversation every few months?" We both laugh ... Coach Eddie ... A guy walks by wearing a red T-shirt with Sheldon Cooper and a big yellow "BAZINGA!" on it ... I chat with Alexandria Divine, who points out that she's been in the business 10 months and she likes it here. "It's like family." When she stashes my business card in a small clutch with an image of The Beatles on it I casually mention that I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. She turns around and shows me her butt tattoo, "All you need is love" surrounding a heart. When I tell her that I also saw Paul McCatrney and Wings and the first live performance of "Dark Side of the Moon" in London in 1973 her eyes widen in envy only slightly mitigated by the realization that she wasn't born yet ...
I finally meet Lizz Tayler after months of chatting on Twitter. She is articulate, direct and looks as good as her pictures. I notice that she is wearing star-shaped pasties which echo the stars tattooed on her hips. She tells me that she has been wanting to be a performer ever since she was a teenager. I tell her that she is among the first generation of performers who have grown up with porn as an everyday part of their lives: They aren't getting into adult by accident, they want to be here and have wanted to for a long time. She suggests I check out her FreeOnes profile and I make a note to do so ...
A rather-hairy guy is getting his chest waxed at a booth. The strips are being built at two-inch widths, and after watching him wince through two depilations I've seen enough. Two guys walk up as I leave and one chortles "Huh huh huh 40-Year-Old Virgin." ... Sunny Lane has arrived at the Vette Nation Army booth, wearing a blue Alice In Wonderland dress and standing behind a table mobbed by fans three-deep. I wave, and she waves back ... I chat for a few minutes with Rucca Page, at her booth with Gianna Michaels, before going over to see Nicki Hunter. We see each other practically every week at Porn Star Karaoke but the loudness precludes getting beyond "How's it going?" I get her to take a picture of us with her iPhone and good thing, too, when I get home I see that I have mislaid the cable that lets me download pictures from my camera.

Adultcon this weekend
The little adult show that could pulls into the Los Angeles Convention Center today. The three-day get-together boasts a collection of performers and retailers of adult-oriented merchandise, and as controversial as the management is -- and there are some people who get livid at the mention of Adultcon -- the people I've observed have a good time and it's a great place to meet and talk with performers.
For years -- pretty much ever since "Deep Throat" came out in 1972 -- people have been talking about the "mainstreaming of porn." I thought it was a crock then, and I think it's a crock now. I truly believe that part of the power of porn is its forbidden, taboo nature. If hardcore becomes commonplace, its power is lost.
I have often quoted Orson Welles' observation on Dick Cavett's '70s talk show. When Cavett asked if Welles would put hardcore scenes in a movie -- which was considered possible at the time -- Welles said that real sex was too powerful, like real death, and he wouldn't use it for that reason.
So there. Orson Welles. Beat that.
That said....
I was watching a magic show this week and the magician spoke of his intention to pass a ball through three brass cups in the classic Cups-And-Balls trick. He referred to it as a "triple penetration."
There was some laughter, as I expected, but some of the laughter was knowing chuckles from young women in their 20s, who were obviously already familiar with the term "double penetration."
I still don't think that porn is mainstream, but I will go this far: a helluva lot more people know about it now.

And while he may be best known for his '70s/'80s heyday as the head of both Columbia and Sony, Peter Guber continues to create such hits as I Know What You Did Last Summer, Donnie Brasco, and the Angelina Jolie vehicle Beyond Borders.
One of the results of mainstream media consolidation is the cross-plug, where one part of a company promotes another part of the same company. Examples include low-level nobodies from ESPN appearing on "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC (Both ESPN and ABC are owned by Disney) and three-hour premieres of a new Paramount movie on MTV (MTV and Paramount are both owned by Viacom).
The cross-plug has worked its way into adult, with Zero Tolerance, 3rd Degree, Black Ice and Diabolic using products from their in-house toy company Evolved Novelties and plugging them on the covers of the DVDs.
I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I'm not going to knock anything that brings more business to this troubled industry.

"Our goal is to make it easy for retailers to cross-merchandise and also for our consumers to purchase Evolved toys and enjoy them while also watching our latest DVDs."
This "as seen in the movie" tool also helps ease the process for couples introducing toys into their relationships -- by having them watch the films together and also use the toys that are featured in the DVDs. The Evolved product list will be highlighted on the bottom of the box covers.
Other films that have Evolved toys in them include Third Degree's "Finger Licking Good 7," "Kagney Linn Karter Super Hero Sex Therapist," "Amateur Lesbian Lovers," "So you Wanna Be a Porn Star 2," "All About Sara Sloane"; Black Ice's "Amateur Black Pussycats," "Big Ass Slumber Party 7" and "Bubble Butt BBQ 3"; as well as Diabolic's "Girls Will Be Girls 6," "All About Me 4," and "Slick Ass Girls."
FSC challenges ICANN in .XXX controversy
As ICANN starts to move toward approving the .xxx TLD, despite substantial opposition from the presumed beneficiaries of the new domain, Free Speech Coalition is taking an opposition stand. Take a look:
FSC Pushes for Transparency from ICANN in ICM Application Process
CANOGA PARK, Calif. -- Free Speech Coalition (FSC) yesterday sent Internet domain regulator ICANN a letter asking for transparency in the application process for the .XXX sTLD proposed by domain registrar ICM.
FSC yesterday also filed a Documentary Information Disclosure Policy (DIDP) request with ICANN, to request information pertaining to the application process. ICANN is obligated to respond to the DIDP request for information within 30 days of filing. Details of the DIDP process can be found at http://www.icann.org/en/transparency/didp-en.htm.
The actions follow what FSC contends are inconsistencies in information to be disclosed to stakeholders during the ongoing application process.
The procedure for approval of the .XXX sTLD was announced by the ICANN Board of Directors after their June meeting in Brussels. The current process includes a 30-day public commentary period that started on Aug 24. It also required posting of information from ICM's revised registry agreement on the ICANN website.
As a "sponsored" TLD, the success of ICM's application requires the support of adult industry stakeholders. FSC opposes the .XXX sTLD and has urged adult online business owners to voice their opposition to ICANN.
In the letter, FSC Executive Director Diane Duke requests that ICANN:
Verify that companies which ICM has listed in support are viable adult businesses
Verify that companies listed in support in fact do support ICM's current application for a .XXX sTLD
Determine how many pre-registrations claimed by ICM are in fact defensive registrations
Determine how many pre-registrations are registrars or companies hoping to re-sell domain names
In the additional DIDP request, FSC asked for:
1. The list of the IFFOR Board members 2. The list of proposed members of the Policy Council 3. IFFOR's Business Plan/Financials 4. Business Plan/Financials Years 1-5 utilizing 125,000 Initial Registrations 5. The list of .XXX sTLD pre-registrants who have been identified to ICANN 6. ICM's Proof of Sponsorship Community Support as submitted to ICANN
(IFFOR, or the International Foundation for Online Responsibility, is the governing body proposed by ICM to set policy for .XXX sTLDs.)
Duke has also requested that the public commentary period be extended to 30 days after resolution of the DIDP request.
"This isn't a done deal," Duke said. "There are still a lot of questions to be answered and barriers to overcome. FSC and the adult entertainment industry will make sure that our voice is heard in the process."

The American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theater is starting a quick Stanley Kubrick retrospective tonight with "Paths of Glory" and "The Killing," two films that show Kubrick's ice-cold crystal cynicism from different directions.
"Paths of Glory" is a WWI-era period piece about a futile military action that results in serious casualties and a court-martial of three soldiers on charges of cowardice under fire. The general who ordered the action, of course, emerges unscathed. The 1956-contemporary "The Killing" stars Sterling Hayden as a small-time crook who hatches and executes a plan to rob a racetrack with a disparate group of characters including Elisha Cook Jr. (inexplicably married to Marie Windsor) and Jay C. Flippen. It was shot in gritty black-and-white at Southern California locations and shows a mastery of film technique as Kubrick manipulates time, showing each member of the group moving into position before the robbery takes place.
Other films in the series include warhorses "2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," "Lolita" and "Dr. Strangelove" as well as the less-seen "Full Metal Jacket" and the thought-lost 1953 "Fear and Desire."
An excellent opportunity to see Kubrick's work on a big screen, which doesn't happen that often any more.

Reuben Sturman, the adult-industry pioneer who built an empire that included adult stores, peep shows, wholesale distributors and production companies, is the latest subject of the mainstream klieg light, Reuters is reporting.
Wrapping yourself in the flag
The Teabaggers have landed in the heartland, big time. A friend of mine who lives in the Midwest told of this ugly little incident where busybodies interfered with traffic and then took a step that blackmailed the village into accepting it.
We have tea partiers in our village and they are making trouble. A crop of 3' high fluorescent green men with 'slow' printed on their sides and flags in their hands appeared. They were placed street side by concerned residents in attempts to slow down cars, many coming and going to a big park. Some residents praised the signs while others condemned them as unsightly. The village was poised to take action since the placement of such signs in village right-of-ways is inappropriate and likely illegal as drivers can become distracted by them.
It was explained to the owners of the signs that they should be placed off of the right of way which extends 30 feet from the center of the roadway. Shortly before these signs were discussed at a village board meeting a new factor was introduced: American flags were placed on the signs. Did the village want to take formal action against the signs and possibly become a topic on national talk shows as the "village that banned American flags from the roadways"?
The village caved and adopted a watchful waiting stance.
My friend's wife pointed out another facet of this particular person:
Do you know the Quiverfull movement? The ringleader behind the American flag threat is one of those. She and her verrrry large family need to live more rural. That way, they can do whatever they please and no one will care. As it is, she, her husband, and her bazillion home-schooled kids just can't get with the program.
I find this scary as hell.

We lost a couple of good guys this week
Paul Conrad was the political cartoonist for the Los Angeles Times for decades. He won three Pulitzer Prizes and received the highest honor any American can receive, a place on Richard Nixon's enemies list.
My favorite Paul Conrad story involves a friend of Mrs. Hunter's when she worked at the Times. One day Mrs. Hunter dropped in on the friend's cubicle and saw a Post-it with Conrad's name and office telephone extension on it. When she asked about it, the friend told her that she hadn't understood one of Conrad's editorial cartoons -- so she called him and asked him what it meant. He explained it to her and ended the conversation by telling her "Call any time."
Robert Schimmel was an accomplished stand-up comedian who had been a frequent guest with Howard Stern and toured regularly. He made comedy out of his complicated personal life and medical history, which included surviving cancer and a heart attack.
Schimmel made an indelible impression on me when he did 10 minutes at the 1997 AVN awards in a set that was so screamingly funny I was glad I had taken my earplugs out. (The Garage Band From Hell was stinking up the place even then.) I was sufficiently impressed that I wrote a letter to the Times after they profiled him the next year:
I first became aware of Robert Schimmel at the 1997 Adult Video News awards ("Spinning Laughs Into Gold?" by Paul Brownfield, April 19). The awards show is staged in Las Vegas, during the annual Consumer Electronics Show. It's the event of the adult industry, attended by representatives of every part of the adult industry, plus a smattering of mainstream types as well.
In Las Vegas -- or anywhere -- a comic can easily get nervous titters by doing sex jokes. The AVN Awards audience is a tougher sell, as the audience is made up of people who are at ease with sexuality: They do not chuckle nervously at the mention of body parts.
Schimmel walked onto the stage and did 10 minutes of sex jokes, engaging the audience on its own turf. And he killed. I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes. This was intelligent observational humor based on sex: Not dirty for the sake of being dirty, but definitely unpublishable in The Times. He left the stage to an enthusiastic ovation, and was enough of a hit to be asked to host the awards this last January, where he was successful again.
As contradictory as it may seem, there are people who can do sex jokes without being smutty. Lenny Bruce and Billy Connolly come to mind as examples. Add Schimmel to this list.

Return of a legendary Playmate
The Playboy Cyber Club has released some pictures of December 1963 Playmate Donna Michelle.
